Sample Answer
The diagram depicts a method for desalinating seawater and transforming it into safe drinking water. Overall, the process is complex with seven distinct stages, commencing with the collection of seawater and culminating in the release of excess salt back into the sea.
The first half of the process involves the collection and purification of seawater. In the initial stages, seawater is collected though an intake tunnel. Next, it passes through an intake screening facility and subsequently a pretreatment filter. In the fourth stage, reverse osmosis membrane units are used to remove salt and other unwanted substances from the seawater. Finally, the water is treated one more time, which ensures the water is safe to drink before being stored in a supply tank.
The second half of the process removes unwanted by-products. When the seawater is filtered and then passed through the reverse osmosis membrane units, the salt and other impurities are pumped through an outlet tunnel, returning them to be safely to the sea.
