IELTS Speaking: Part 1 Practice Questions – A

On this page you’ll find a collection of possible IELTS speaking questions for part 1 of the IELTS speaking test. Some of these questions have appeared in actual IELTS exam while others are similar and might appear in the real exam. You should not try to memorize questions or answers. Instead, your goal is to develop fluency, grammar, and topic specific vocabulary and idiomatic language so that you can answer any IELTS question easily and accurately.

All of the questions require you to use the language skills necessary to achieve a high band score in the IELTS speaking test. When you practice, you should try to be fluent. Therefore, the length of your answer will depend on how fluent you are.

For instance, if you struggle to speak, then you will score higher by providing short, concise, and accurate answers that are just one sentence long than long answers filled with mistakes and hesitations. On the other hand, if you have strong fluency, then you can provide answers that are 4-5 sentences long.

You should also try to use idiomatic language and vocabulary that are specific to the topic, paraphrasing words from the question where possible.
